Nokia C series is back. Nokia C1 goes official

This is an exciting announcement more because of the return of an old Nokia device series. Nokia Mobile has just brought back the C Series with the introduction of the all-new Nokia C1 smartphone. Nokia Mobile announced this budget Nokia smartphone will be available only in a select few countries of Africa, Middle East and APAC.

Nokia C1 is an ultra low priced Android Go device targeted at the 1st time smartphone buyers who will be switching from feature phones. Nokia C1 is a 3G smartphone in 2019 but it will also be sold only in the select few countries where 3G is still in use. Being an Android Go device will keep the phone updated for three years which is not a perk one gets when they buy such a low-end phone.

Coming to specifications, Nokia C1 has a 5.45" 480p IPS display protected by "toughened glass". The phone gets all its processing power from a 1.3Ghz Quad-Core processor the brand of which is not known. There's 1 GB RAM which should be able to handle the Go/Lite versions of the regular apps and the 16GB of onboard storage is a big positive on a phone at this price range. The memory can be further expanded up to 64 GB to store all your photos and selfies taken with the combo of 5MP front and rear cameras. The 5MP selfie shooter is also accompanied by a LED flash at the front. Nokia C1 comes with a 2500 mAh removable battery which isn't too big but considering the specifications and a smaller lower resolution display it should last for a day.

Another interesting feature of the Nokia C1 is the dedicated Google Assistant button which can be very useful for many users. Nokia C1 can take up to two nano sim cards and also has an FM Radio support.

Nokia C1 Price

Nokia C1 has launched at a price of 5999 Kenyan Shilling which converts to around $59USD. As of now, the phone is only listed on the official Nokia websites of Kenya and Nigeria and should reach a few more countries soon. Nokia C1 will be available in Red and Black colour options. Nokia C1 name is like a breath of fresh air from the numerical device naming scheme adopted by Nokia Mobile and I wish to see more devices being added to this new C series. I feel Nokia Mobile should make C series exclusive for its Android Go and Android One powered Nokia smartphones and devices with different Android experience can be launched under the Nokia X/N Series. What do you think?
